DECA and the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation have been partners
for the past four years, working to promote entrepreneurism to high school
youth. The mission of the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation is
to educate young people about the critical role of small business, the
American free-enterprise system and to help students interested in
small business and entrepreneurship further their education. The
Foundation sought out a partnership with DECA because of their
established leadership in educating todays youth about business and
marketing. It was a natural fi t that these two entities should work
together.
In 2003, the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation created a
national scholarship program, encouraging young entrepreneurs
to pursue higher education and possibly join the ranks of Americas
small-business owners. Since the inception of the NFIB Young
Entrepreneur Award program, approximately $1,179,000.00 has been
awarded to 1,115 students across the country. A total of 408 budding
entrepreneurs were recognized in 2006, 77 of them DECA members.
