Content Inside: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Corporate Communications (617) 563-5800 FIDELITY INVESTMENTS ® , CONGRESSMAN KENNEDY AND THE RI DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION FOR THE 2006 PROFILE IN COURAGE STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS SATURDAY, JANUARY 7 th 2006 SMITHFIELD, December 5, 2005 – Fidelity Investments, Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) and the Rhode Island Department of Education have joined to encourage eligible high school students to participate in the 2006 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest. The annual contest, sponsored by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and supported by Fidelity Investments, invites high school students from across the nation to write a compelling essay about the meaning of political courage. As part of the essay, students must pick a political issue (past or present) at the local, state or national level and an elected official who is acting (or acted) courageously to address that issue. Named for President Kennedy’s 1957 Pulitzer prize-winning book, Profiles in Courage recounts the stories of eight U.S. senators who risked their careers to fight for what they believed in. "The Profile in Courage Essay Contest is one of the greatest tributes to my uncles legacy," said Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy. "My uncle inspired a generation of -more- Fidelity Supports Profile in Courage Essay Contest / Americans in believing that service to our nation is one of the highest pursuits possible. His words continue to ring true today. It is my hope that, through this contest, our young generation can continue to be inspired by President Kennedys timeless words of hope.
