Content Inside: Environmental Economics and Policy Department of Agricultural Economics Michigan State University EEP 255 Ecological Economics Spring Semester 2006 Monday and Wednesday 3:00-4:20 p.m. Room 221 Natural Resources Building Course Overview: Is it possible to have a strong economy and a healthy environment? This course explores the possibilities. The first third of the course looks at the big picture of how the economy and the environment are related. It examines how products are made and how production is organized in the U.S. economy and why wastes result from production and consumption of those products. The second third of the course looks at the environmental impacts of economic activity examines why markets fail to achieve desired environmental quality and considers how public policies can create incentives for environmental protections. Policies that may lead to a stronger economy and a healthier environment are explored. The third section of the course examines how public policy affects business firms and what they can do to manage environmental impacts. EEP 255 is the flagship course in MSUs Environmental Economics and Policy major and Environmental Economics specialization.
