Egyptian Social Entrepreneur of the Year
Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship
Thank you Peter and Hilde, I am honoured to share the stage today to participate
in an initiative that you have championed for nearly ten years now -- an initiative
which provides a global platform to promote social entrepreneurship as a key
element to advance societies and address social problems in an innovative and
effective manner.
Today we are here to award the Egyptian Social Entrepreneur of the Year award.
And this achievement does not end with this recognition today. Social
entrepreneurship is a movement that has a lasting impact and one that is very
important to the Egyptian government and its citizens alike.
• Social responsibility has historically been the sole duty of
governments and the societies they serve. But what we have
witnessed today is that the societies that have leap-frogged in
terms of development have done so by engaging the private sector.
They have successfully worked side by side with the government to
invest socially in the communities where they live and operate.
• Businesses are starting to show responsibility towards their
communities - in education and healthcare - areas typically
supported by governments. The business partnership in these
areas is yielding profound and increasingly positive results.
• Social responsibility poses a win-win outcome for everyone
involved. Social Entrepreneurs work for public interest and take an
active role in helping our country in ways never thought possible by
government resources alone.
• But this new movement towards corporate social responsibility is
not just a trend. Its an important and sustainable effort that is
imperative .
• As a government, we see the need for comprehensive development
of our societies. It is our priority and desire to make room for the
private sector to play an active role in developing our society . ...
