American economic history studies these changes and their causes. Economic history is a unique combination of many exciting features. First of all it is history; true action adventures from the past. As such it is a narrative description of what really happened; how we got to where we are. To this we add the analytical view of economics. Were these developments dependent on a few lucky events or were they part of larger economic patterns? Can economics explain our past and what does it say about our future?
