Content Inside: A career with music.? It is the obvious choice for anyone with a strong interest in music. It is challenging and worthwhile and offers a high level of job satisfaction. But its very attractiveness means that competition is fierce and remuneration is below that of other jobs which require similar levels of skill training and expertise. To succeed you must not just be good at what you do; you must also have absolute dedication and determination. Music offers a kaleidoscope of opportunities. There are performers and composers teachers in institutions and at home administrators publishers record companies instrument manufac- turers librarians broadcasters and journalists. All work in with and for music. The skills and experience required for each activity are quite specific; but many people occupy more than one niche either concurrently or consecutively during their careers. The most common example is musi- cians who perform and teach. This section Careers With Music will give you general guidance on all areas of the music business with some useful addresses to follow up. Whatever area of music you choose there is no standard training programme and no fixed career path. You may have to acquire qualifications to demonstrate that you have the necessary expertise; but they will not automatically bring you work.
