Content Inside: A GUIDE TO CALCULATING POINTS REQUIRED FOR PROMOTION TO AND WITHIN THE DAN GRADES With effect from 1 Jan 2006 100 points are required for promotion to the next grade. This information is published in the document BJA/EJU/IJF promotion requirements published on the BJA web pages under Technical/Promotions. Copies can also be obtained from BJA Head office or from Area Director of Examiners In order not to disadvantage any Judoka there is a 2 year amnesty where candidates promoted before 2006 and were following the old scheme of points published in 1999 will be allowed to continue under the old system. This concession will cease on 1/1/2008. Basically if the total number of points that was required on 31/12/2005 was less than 100 then the candidate only needs that amount to be promoted. Eg2 A veteran promoted to 1 st Kyu on 1/12/2003 required 50points on 31/12/2005 therefore that Judoka still only requires 50 points but the total must be obtained by 1/1/08 otherwise it will revert to 100 points due to the termination of the 2 year concession Eg3 A judoka has been a 1 st Dan for 2 years and has 120 points. Previous to 2006 that candidate required 150 points in total. That Judoka now has over 100 points and can be promoted Eg4 A judoka has been a 3 rd Dan for 2 years and has 120 points. Previous to 2006 that candidate required 200 points. That Judoka has over 100 points and has satisfied the points requirement. But has to wait until he has been in the grade 3 years to satisfy the new minimum time in grade requirements. Eg5 A judoka had been a 2 nd Dan for 2 years from 2000-2002 he then allowed his membership to lapse. On re-joining the BJA in 2006 by 2007 he will have only had 3 years in his grade not the 7 as for 4 of those years he was not a BJA member. Strictly speaking his continuous membership has on ...
