Content Inside: 3-5.1 Adopted: 07/18/90 Print Date: June 24 2005 Revised: City of Bend Economic Development Policy Section 1. Purpose: To create family wage employment and to diversify the Bend economic base through the expansion of existing "primary job" employers and bringing to Bend new "primary job" firms that are compatible with the community's "quality of life" goals. Section 2. Definitions: 2.1 Family wage employment is defined as providing wages at a minimum of $8.00 per hour. ($16640 per year) 2.2 Primaryjobsare those thatprovide services and/or products that are sold outside this area thereby bringing new dollars into the local economy. 2.3 Secondary jobs are those that provide the sale of a product or service for local consumption thereby circulating dollars within the local economy. Section 3. Philosophy Behind the Program: 3.1 In order to provide a sound economic future for Bend and its citizens Bend needs to build an increasingly diversified industrial base. Primary wood products the dominant industry of the past will play a diminishing role in the future. It is essential that other existing industries and new businesses be developed to replace those jobs and to provide employment for a growing population. 3.2 Existing industries such as secondary wood products; machinery manufacturing; a wide variety of high tech firms; research and development companies etc. have potential for growth. 3.3 Targeted new companies should include but are not limited to the following types of industries: 3.3.1 aviation firms such as parts and equipment; 3.3.2 technology based such as electronics environment sciences health sciences; 3.3.3 information-based such as software development data processing consulting; 3-5.2 Adopted: 07/18/90 Print Date: June 24 2005 Revised: 3.3.4 secondary wood products such as laminating furniture toys; 3.3.5 recreation sports wear and equipment manufacturers and distributors such as skis kayaks ...
