Content Inside: Some key findings: The number of businesses using the Internet for sales increased by a quarter to 5 per cent between 2002 and 2003. Businesses were a lot more likely to buy than sell over the Internet with 29 per cent reporting that they did so at some time during 2003. Three in ten (31 per cent) of businesses reported having a website at the end of 2003. The use of many ICTs was growing fastest among smaller businesses at the end of 2003 partly reflecting their catching up following the early investment by larger businesses. The largest increase in businesses with Internet access was among those with fewer than 50 employees. Seventy per cent of businesses used PCs in 2003; this rises to 92 per cent if businesses with fewer than 10 employees are excluded. The number of people with access to the Internet at work rose by 9 per cent between the end of 2002 and the end of 2003 to 7.1 million. One in four businesses used broadband as the primary method of Internet connection at the end of 2003 a rise from one in seven in 2002. Fewer businesses reported the reason for not using broadband as 'not available in geographic area' in 2003 than in 2002.
